Dolly links
Send a link, not a file.
Stop recording, or press ⇧⌘L, and a short link is on your clipboard in under a second, before the upload is done. It plays as soon as the video is ready, on a calm page with comments, reactions and chapters.
One click. No waiting for the upload.
Links live on link.getdolly.app. The link exists the moment you click; the video follows.
- Stop, or press ⇧⌘LWith After recording set to Get link, stopping is enough. In the editor it's ⇧⌘L or Export › Get link. Dolly makes a 1080p web copy of that one video.
- The link is on your clipboardIn under a second, while the upload is still running. Paste it into Slack, an email or an issue.
- It plays when it's readyAnyone who opens it early sees “Processing…” with an estimate, then the video. No account needed to watch.
What your viewers get.
Everything happens on one page that opens in any browser, on any phone. Nobody has to sign up to watch, comment or react.
What you get back. In Dolly, not in a browser tab.
See who's watching without tracking anyone, answer comments and change a link's settings without leaving your Mac.
Your Mac, until you choose otherwise.
Recording, editing and export stay on your Mac. A link only uploads the video you chose to share.
Goes online when you click Get link
- A 1080p web copy of that one video
- Its poster frame, and captions if you made a transcript
- The title, description and settings you gave the link
Never leaves your Mac
- Your project and your raw recordings
- Every video you don't share
- The link's password: only a salted hash is stored
Questions
More in the Dolly links guide.
Can I get a link the moment I stop recording?
Yes. Set Settings › After recording to Get link, or choose Stop and Get Link in the recording pill. Stopping then puts the link on your clipboard in under a second, without opening the editor; the video uploads behind it.
Are Dolly links free?
Yes, up to 10 active links on the free plan. A link nobody has watched for 90 days is archived, and you can restore it within 30 days. Watch pages of free links show a small “Make your own video — free” button. Pro gives unlimited links with insights, a password and expiry, and your own button and branding.
What leaves my Mac when I click Get link?
A 1080p web copy of that one video, its poster frame, and its captions if you made a transcript. Your project, your raw recordings and everything you never share stay on your Mac.
Do I need an account?
Not to watch: viewers never need one. To make links you don't need one either; a free Dolly account (just your email) keeps your plan on up to three Macs. Only the Mac that made a link can change or delete it.
Who can see my video?
Anyone with the link, unless you set a password. Links are random, aren't listed anywhere and ask search engines not to index them.
Can I change a video after sharing it?
Yes. Edit the project and click Get link again: the link stays the same, with its comments, reactions and views. Or turn that off to make a new link.
What about very long videos?
Each link takes a video of up to 500 MB, roughly 15 to 20 minutes of 1080p screen video. On Free you can have 10 active links at a time; delete or archive the ones you no longer need to make room, or go Pro for unlimited links. For longer videos, export the MP4 and share the file.
Can viewers reply with a video?
Yes. Under the comment box, Reply with a video records their screen (with an optional camera bubble) or their camera on a phone, up to 5 minutes. They see a preview first and are told that you and everyone with the link will see it. You can switch video replies off per link. We tested it in Chrome; other browsers may record differently or not offer screen sharing.
Can I still paste the video itself?
Yes. Quick share puts the video file on your clipboard instead, with nothing uploaded. Use whichever fits the conversation.
Roll camera.
Screen Studio quality. Free. No 5-minute limit.
