Dolly Agents · MCP

Your AI makes the explainer videos.

Connect Claude or Cursor to Dolly. It learns your app, writes the plan, and Dolly films every video like a product marketer would: a voice-over, captions, calm camera work and a title and end card. On your own Mac, with the AI you already use.

What Dolly does in the edit

Directed, not just recorded.

Your AI decides what to show and what to say. Dolly does the rest, the way a good product marketer would.

A voice-over, made on your Mac.Every line is spoken by Apple's own voices, free and offline. Captions follow the voice word for word, and the music steps back while it talks.
A hook in three seconds.A short title card, then the outcome: “Send your first invoice in under a minute.”
Say it, then show it.The narrator explains a step while the cursor heads there, never after.
Zooms with a purpose. On the form you fill in, the thing to read and the result. Never on every click.
No waiting on screen.Loading and spinners are cut out. Pages are filmed once they've settled.
A calm hand.Smooth cursor paths, a beat before every click, typing you can read along with.

Your app changed. Your videos follow.

Ask your AI to update the explainers. Dolly replays every video's steps, compares each screen with what the video showed, and re-records only the ones that changed. Same file names, same links.

dolly_check_explainers → 2 same · 1 changed: “Send invoice” is now “Send now”

Three steps. Then it runs on its own.

  1. Connect your AIIn Dolly, open Connect your AI… from the menu bar icon. Install in Claude adds Dolly to Claude Desktop in one click; Claude Code gets a command to paste and a skill; Cursor a button.
  2. Ask for explainers“Make explainer videos of my app with Dolly. It runs at http://localhost:3000.” In Claude Code you can also run /mcp__dolly__make_explainers.
  3. Watch the series appearYour AI studies the product, writes the plan and tries every step. Dolly records each video in its own browser window, narrates it, checks it and writes an index page.

Just ask your AI.

Explainers are one thing. Once Dolly is connected, say what you want done with your recordings, the way you would to a colleague. Each of these works today.

Private by design

Your AI. Your Mac.

An agent that drives your screen should be one you trust. So Dolly keeps everything local and lets you see every step.

  • Your AI does the thinkingDolly never calls an AI and ships no API keys. Claude or Cursor does the work through MCP, so it costs nothing extra.
  • Nothing leaves your MacThe connection runs over 127.0.0.1 with a private token. Nothing is uploaded unless you ask your AI for Dolly links.
  • You stay in controlExplainer takes record only Dolly's own browser window, never the rest of your screen. Switch it all off under Allow AI control.
  • Every edit is undoableIt edits through Dolly's own editor. Open the project afterwards, see what it did and press ⌘Z.

Not just explainers. Anything Dolly does.

“Open my latest recording, cut the ums, zoom in on every click, make an interactive demo and reply to the comments on its link.” Your AI can use every part of Dolly, through the same editor you use, so every change is undoable. The pen during a take, and deleting links or comments, stay yours.

Works with Claude Desktop (one-click extension), Claude Code (command and skill), Cursor and any MCP app that runs local servers. ChatGPT follows as soon as it can reach apps on your own computer.

Part of Dolly Pro. €19, once.

No subscription and no per-video cost: your own AI does the thinking and the voices come with your Mac. On the free plan your AI can already read your projects, write the explainer plan, list the voices and run Auto edit.

Questions

Which AI apps work?

Claude Desktop (one-click extension), Claude Code, Cursor and any MCP app that runs local stdio servers. ChatGPT only connects to remote MCP servers for now, so it can't reach Dolly on your Mac yet.

Does the voice-over cost anything?

No. Dolly uses the voices built into macOS, on your Mac. For the most natural sound, download a free Premium voice once (System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Manage Voices). Dolly picks the best one by itself.

Can I turn the voice off?

Yes: Voice: off in the plan gives captions only. You can also pick a voice by name, or add music under it.

What happens when my app changes?

Ask your AI to update the explainers. Dolly checks every video against the app and re-records only the changed ones, under the same file names, so links and embeds keep working.

Does it work with my Mac apps, or only websites?

Both. Web apps are recorded in Dolly's own browser window, so your mouse stays free. In Mac apps your AI names buttons and fields by their text (through macOS Accessibility), and Dolly uses the real mouse and keyboard, which needs Accessibility permission.

My app needs a login.

Sign in once in Dolly's browser window when your AI asks; the session is kept for every video. Or give your AI a demo account to use in the plan's setup steps, which are never in the video.

Can I share the series?

Each series has an index page (index.html) with every video, poster and transcript. Put the folder on any web host, or with Pro, ask your AI for Dolly links.

Can it use everything in Dolly?

Almost. Recording, editing, the transcript, looks, annotations, the teleprompter, captions, exports including interactive demos, and your Dolly links with their settings and comments. Drawing with the pen during a take and deleting links or comments stay with you.

Do I need an API key or extra subscription?

No. Dolly never calls an AI itself. The AI app you already use does the thinking through MCP.

Can I change a video?

Yes. Edit the plan in dolly-explainers.md and ask for a new take; it replaces the old one. Or open the project in Dolly and edit it by hand; everything is undoable.

Where do the videos go?

~/Movies/Dolly/Explainers/, as MP4 files with stable names, plus posters and the index page.

Roll camera.

Free to download and try with your AI. The explainer videos are part of Pro, €19 once.

First time: open Dolly, click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (macOS 13–14: right-click Dolly → Open). Once only. Installation help
