Why Dolly is free
Most screen recorders that look this good either cost money before you can export, or stop you after five minutes. We think the best way to show what Dolly does is to let you make real videos with it. So the free plan isn't a trial: there's no time limit, no countdown and no cap on recordings, and every tool that makes the video is in it.
The free plan pays for itself in two small ways. Free exports have a small "Made with Dolly" logo in the corner, and Dolly links on Free show a "Make your own video" button. If those bother you, Pro is €59 a year, and Lifetime is €99 once.
The launch gift: Pro, free until 30 November
Every Dolly account gets Pro free until 30 November 2026: no logo, 4K at 60 fps, GIF and unlimited Dolly links. Create a free account to claim it. After that, you keep Free with no time limit; nothing is charged unless you choose a paid plan.
What you give up on Free (honestly)
- Resolution. Free exports go up to 1080p. For 4K or 60 fps GIFs you need Pro or Lifetime.
- The logo. A small "Made with Dolly" mark sits in the corner of free exports.
- Links. Up to 10 active Dolly links at a time; a link without views for 90 days is archived, and you can restore it within 30 days.
- Connect your AI. Letting Claude, Claude Code or Cursor record a demo for you over MCP is part of Pro.
And on every plan: Dolly runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. Windows is in the works, and recording an iPhone or iPad is coming soon.
When another free recorder is the better pick
For a raw ten-second clip, the Mac's own recorder (⇧⌘5) is already there; see Dolly vs QuickTime. For live streaming and scenes, OBS Studio is free and very capable. If you need Windows or Linux today, Cap is open source. Our best screen recorder for Mac guide compares eight apps, free and paid.
