Export
Sizes, frame rates and shapes.
Format
MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) in 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K, at 24, 30 or 60 fps. Quality Studio, High or Web. Under More › Codec you can pick HEVC instead of H.264: up to a third smaller at the same sharpness (Get link and Quick Share stay H.264). Free exports go up to 1080p with a small Made with Dolly logo in the corner; Pro and Lifetime remove the logo and add 1440p and 4K at 60 fps. With Pro or Lifetime you can also export a GIF at 480, 720 or 1080 px wide, with your own frame rate and looping; Dolly estimates the file size first.
Shape
Keep the original (Auto) or export 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4 or 9:16. Tall and square shapes follow the action: see Vertical videos.
Where it goes
⌘E opens Export; press it again to export with what the panel shows. ⇧⌘E renders and copies the video to your clipboard in one go, ready to paste into Slack, Mail or X. Or save a file and show it in Finder.
Loudness
Every export plays at streaming loudness (-16 LUFS, the level YouTube, Slack and Loom play at), with a clean peak limiter, so a quiet laptop microphone sounds as loud as the next video. Switch off Audio › Even out loudness to keep the level as recorded. The preview still plays the recording's own level.
After recording
In Settings, After recording decides what Stop does: open the editor, Quick Share (the video file on your clipboard), or Get link (a short link on your clipboard). You can also pick from the recording pill's stop menu.
Quick Share
Quick Share puts the video file itself on your clipboard. Nothing is uploaded. Set After recording to Quick Share, or choose Quick Share on a recording in Dolly Home. Dolly renders a web MP4 when you stop: ⌘V pastes the video into Slack, Mail, Notion or Messages. A small card shows the progress, then lets you drag the file, open it in the editor, show it in Finder or use the macOS share sheet.
The card picks the size for where it's going: Slack (1080p, the default), GitHub (under 10 MB), X (1080p as X recommends it) or a looping GIF under 10 MB for docs and READMEs (GIF on Pro and Lifetime). It remembers your last choice. Quick Share is unlimited on every plan.
Want a link with views and comments instead of a file? That's Get link.
Speed
Dolly encodes on your Mac's media engine, so nothing waits in a queue and nothing is uploaded.
