Permissions

What Dolly asks for, and why.

Screen Recording

Needed to capture your screen. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on macOS 13 and 14) and switch Dolly on. Dolly asks for this the first time you record. Click Quit & Reopen when macOS asks.

Open Screen Recording settings (works on a Mac).

Dolly isn't in the list

Click + under the list, choose Applications → Dolly and switch it on. After an update, if recordings turn black again, remove Dolly with −, add it again and reopen Dolly.

Input Monitoring

Optional. Lets Dolly see which keys you press, so it can show shortcuts in your video and speed up typing. Without it, auto zoom still follows your clicks.

Camera

Only when you use your camera.

Microphone

Only when the microphone is on in the recording bar. It starts on once macOS allows it, until you switch it off yourself. Open Microphone settings.
