Follow the action in 9:16, 4:5, 3:4 or 1:1.

Follow the action

Pick a tall or square shape (9:16, 4:5, 3:4 or 1:1) for a wide recording and Dolly fills the whole frame with your recording and moves the frame with the action: the spot you zoom on, your cursor, or the text you're typing. It moves on the same springs as the zooms and never shows anything outside the recording. The Follow the action chip next to the shape turns it off, for the letterboxed look.

Zooms in a tall frame

A tall frame already shows your screen at about its real size, so zooms zoom in less there. Captions, keys and the camera bubble keep clear of the bottom strip where Reels, Shorts and TikTok put their buttons.

Also export vertical

In Export › More, switch on Also export vertical to get a second file, name (vertical).mp4, in 9:16 with Follow the action, in the same run and with one progress bar. Not for GIF, or when the project is already tall.

Never upscaled

A 9:16 slice of a Retina screen holds 1080 × 1920 pixels. Dolly exports a tall video at the detail your recording really holds and says so in the Resolution row, instead of blowing it up to 1440p or 4K with softer text and a bigger file.
